Building a deck in Surrey: what's required
In Surrey a building permit is required for most deck additions to a house. The City asks for a full drawing set — site plan, foundation plan, floor plan, cross section and elevations — with the permit fee due when you apply, and a damage deposit where one applies. Once the permit is issued the approved drawings have to stay on site for the whole build. We prepare and submit that package and deal with the plan reviewer directly, so the permit is our job rather than yours.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Surrey?
In most cases yes — the City of Surrey requires a building permit for deck additions to a house, submitted with a full drawing set. We prepare and submit the application as part of the project.
How high can a deck be in Surrey before it needs a railing?
Under the BC Building Code a guard is required once the deck surface sits more than 600 mm (24″) above grade. Up to 1.8 m the guard must be at least 900 mm tall; above 1.8 m it must be 1,070 mm.
